Delhi HC Calls Justice Varma Cash Probe Plea 'Wild Witch Hunt', Refuses To Entertain It

The Delhi High Court dismissed a petition demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into allegations of cash being discovered at the residence of former Justice Yashwant Varma. Justice Amit Bansal criticized the petition as a "wild witch hunt" and emphasized the petitioner and advocate Ghanshyam Upadhyay lacked the necessary jurisdiction.

Upadhyay had argued that the case was exceptional and that a magistrate could not order a CBI or Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation. The High Court reasoned that Upadhyay could pursue alternative remedies, such as contacting the Delhi Police and a competent magistrate. The court did not comment on the validity of the allegations themselves, only whether the petitioner had the right to seek a CBI or SIT probe through the High Court.
