DeepL boss: Being private right now has a "lot of advantages"

The CEO of DeepL, Jarek Kutylowski, has downplayed expectations of a soon-to-be IPO for the company. In an interview on the Tech.eu podcast, Kutylowski highlighted several advantages to being a private company at the moment. He discussed topics such as European sovereignty, the acquisition of Mixhalo, a deal with legaltech firm Harvey, job cuts, and the aftermath of their decision to use Amazon Web Services instead of processing data solely on their own servers.

Kutylowski dismissed the idea that DeepL, a Cologne-based AI language translation and voice-to-voice translation service, might go public this year. He cited the impending IPOs of OpenAI and Anthropic as reasons to stay private. Kutylowski emphasized that the current public market is challenging for AI and tech companies. He stated that stability is crucial for a company's development, and being in the public markets as an AI firm would be tumultuous due to the anticipated market upheaval and potential collateral damage.

Consequently, Kutylowski believes that being private currently offers significant benefits to DeepL.
