Cosplay, gaming and Japanese pop culture explodes over Estepona as thousands gather for annual convention

This weekend, the picturesque town of Estepona was immersed in a vibrant pop culture extravaganza, as fans from across the region descended upon the city for the fourth annual Costa del Sol Manga Festival. Organized by local non-profit association Pax Cultural in collaboration with Estepona Town Hall, the festival brought together thousands of enthusiasts for three action-packed days of cosplay, gaming, K-Pop dancing, and more.

Held at the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos, the festival featured a myriad of activities designed to capture the essence of Japanese and Korean pop culture. Cosplayers adorned their bodies with intricate wigs and elaborate costumes, transforming the town into a living, breathing world of their favorite characters. Competitions for individual cosplay titles and group displays took center stage on Saturday evening, while families enjoyed mini catwalks tailored specifically for younger participants.

Gaming enthusiasts flocked to dedicated free-play arenas and competitive brackets, battling it out in titles such as Guilty Gear and Mario Tennis. Tabletop strategists gathered around tables to engage in Final Fantasy TCG and Warhammer battles. Meanwhile, music lovers immersed themselves in open request hours and Random Play Dance sessions, celebrating their favorite Japanese and Korean pop tunes.

Local creators, comic publishers, and independent illustrators set up shop in a bustling market area, offering custom art prints, handmade merchandise, and imported collectibles.

As the festival drew to a close on Sunday evening, visitors packed their costumes and prepared to pack away their cosplay.
