CM Sindh orders massive enrolment drive

Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah ordered a comprehensive enrolment drive on Sunday. He directed the School Education Department, district administrations and Education Management Organisations to ensure every newly constructed and rehabilitated school under the Sindh Secondary Education Improvement Project (SSEIP) is fully functional from its first day of operation. The Chief Minister made this announcement during a review meeting of EMOs at CM House.

The SSEIP has seen unprecedented investments in expanding educational infrastructure across Sindh. A total of 838 schools are under construction, upgrade or rehabilitation, including 116 new secondary schools and 722 climate-resilient schools. These projects are expected to provide educational opportunities to nearly 250,000 children, including over 221,000 in flood-affected districts and more than 28,000 in upgraded secondary schools.

The CM emphasized that the objective is not merely to construct school buildings, but to fill these classrooms with students and improve literacy levels, particularly among girls and children in underserved areas. He directed the Education Department to prepare district-wise enrolment plans and involve various stakeholders, including elected representatives, local leaders, and school management committees, in a coordinated enrolment drive.

The meeting was informed that schools will be completed by specific dates, with the first batch of 40 schools launching procurement already underway. The Chief Secretary assured the CM of full support for awareness campaigns and enrolment drives. The CM reiterated that every completed school must become a functioning school, ensuring no child is left behind in accessing quality education.
