Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie leads new 11-member Council for Legal Education and Training Board

The Council for Legal Education and Training (CLET) has introduced its newly formed 11-member Board of Members, led by Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie. This diverse group comprises senior judiciary members, government officials, and academics from Ghana's top law schools and universities. The participating members are Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, Justice Jennifer Abena Dadzie, Her Honour Siran Mahama, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, Deputy Minister for Education Dr Clement Abas Apaak, Prof Augustine Ocloo, Prof Kofi Abotsi, Prof Peter Atudiwe Atupare, and Prof Cynthia Forson.

The board's composition ensures representation from Ghana's judiciary, justice and education ministries, tertiary education regulators, and prominent law faculties. The CLET oversees various elements of legal education and professional training across Ghana, including the administration of the Ghana School of Law and related regulatory functions.

The newly constituted board emerges as Ghana pursues reforms in legal education, in line with the Legal Education Act's enactment. The Ghana Bar Association has previously advocated for the act's implementation and the establishment of its governing bodies, asserting that the framework would bolster reforms in legal education.

The new board's inclusion of senior judicial officers, government representatives, and academics is anticipated to provide oversight across the various aspects of legal education and professional training. Consequently, the board will now be tasked with carrying out its responsibilities under the legal education framework, including overseeing the development and administration of legal education and training in Ghana.
