[Asian Games] Teen swimmer Kim Seung-won wins bronze in women's 50m backstroke

On Monday, 16-year-old South Korean swimmer Kim Seung-won secured a bronze medal in the women's 50-meter backstroke swimming event at the Asian Games. Kim broke the 27-second barrier, finishing with a time of 27.72 seconds at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. This marked her first medal in her first Asian Games competition. Wan Letian from China emerged victorious, clocking in at 27.47 seconds, just 0.19 seconds ahead of fellow Chinese swimmer Wang Xueer.

South Korea's Kim Seung-won claimed the nation's fifth swimming medal at the Asiad. She also qualified for the 100m backstroke, women's 4x100m medley relay, and mixed 4x100m medley relay events. Kim's reaction time of 0.56 seconds was the second fastest among the final's 10 swimmers and 0.04 seconds quicker than Wang. While the Chinese swimmer clinched the silver, Kim expressed her happiness, saying, "I worked so hard for the Asian Games here, and I am so pleased to win my first medal."
