[Asian Games] S. Korea loses to Japan to drop to bronze medal match in women's volleyball

South Korea suffered a loss to Japan in the women's volleyball semifinal at the Asian Games, setting up a bronze medal match against Thailand. In the semifinal match held at Park Arena Komaki, Japan defeated South Korea 3-0 with scores of 25-22, 25-22, and 25-16. South Korea had not lost a game in the group stage and had eliminated Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals, but they were unable to defeat the host country in their pursuit of their first gold since 2014.

The South Korean women's volleyball team had not gone without a medal at the Asian Games since 2023 and had never achieved consecutive medals in women's volleyball. Despite a strong performance in the first set, South Korea faltered and fell further behind in the second set. They briefly led in the second set but eventually conceded four consecutive points and ultimately lost the match.
