(Asiad) S. Korean karate fighter wins 1st inter-Korean match at Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games

NAGOYA, Japan - On Monday, South Korean karate fighter An Jeong-eun secured a historic victory, marking the first inter-Korean match at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. An emerged triumphant by defeating North Korean karate fighter Jong Se-ri with a score of 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the women's -61 kilogram kumite event. Kumite involves two competitors competing against each other, and the fighter with the higher score is declared the winner.

An's achievement propelled her into the semifinals, where she faced off against Gong Li from China, ultimately losing the match 8-0. Jong Se-ri is among the two Korean residents of Japan participating in the Asian Games under North Korea's flag, with Ri Song-a being the other. The historic bout between An and Jong was the first all-Korean showdown at the Asian Games, which commenced on Saturday.

Later in the day, the Korean women's football teams commenced their final preliminary-round match at Shizuoka Stadium Ecopa in Fukuroi, located approximately 104 kilometers east of Nagoya.
