Arab League condemns Israeli escalation at holy sites, against Palestinians

The Arab League has issued a strong condemnation of the recent actions by Israeli officials and settlers. They entered Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is under military protection, and violated the sanctity of the site. The League's General Secretariat strongly rejected any change to the status of Al-Aqsa Mosque and other Islamic holy sites.

They emphasized the need to respect the Hashemite custodianship over these important religious locations in Jerusalem. The League also denounced the ongoing raids, incursions, and arrest campaigns taking place in Palestinian cities and towns. This includes incidents in Biddu, located northwest of Jerusalem, where arrests, home searches, property damage, and assaults on residents have occurred.

The League stressed that these actions are a dangerous escalation and a clear violation of international law and humanitarian law. They also rejected the closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque to Muslim worshippers and the prohibition of the call to prayer. The Arab League has called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take responsibility for halting these violations.

They urge the world body to provide protection for the Palestinian people and their holy sites, and to preserve the historical and legal status of Jerusalem. The League's main goal is to prevent further escalation and achieve calm, stability, and a just, comprehensive peace.
