APC PCC: Obi Has Nowhere to Hide Over His Poor Anambra Record

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) claims that presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has no room for deniability regarding his time as Anambra governor. According to the PCC, Obi's claims of fiscal prudence and a clean bill of health have been debunked. The spokesperson, Dele Alake, revealed that during his tenure, Obi spent approximately $4.05 billion, or N5.4 trillion, and accrued $123.77 million in external loans.

The Anambra State Government has detailed the eight different external borrowings made during Obi's eight-year tenure, primarily for malaria control, erosion management, education, and healthcare. The state also highlighted that even after leaving office, these loans continued to be serviced by subsequent administrations. Alake emphasized that despite these borrowings, Obi left the state with no noticeable improvements in various sectors.

Furthermore, Alake pointed out that Obi's staff had pleaded with him to pay Water Corporation workers' salaries to prevent protests. Despite these pleas, Obi failed to do so. He also promised Anambra residents that he would resign as governor if workers were not paid on time. However, upon leaving office in 2014, Obi left his successors with even more arrears. The PCC advises Obi to resign from the 2027 presidential race, as he has consistently lied about his record and shown no remorse for his actions.
