Almost 1,500 flock to Gata festival packed with unusual sounds

Almost 1,500 attendees flocked to the inaugural Gata’m Fest, a unique festival held in Gata de Gorgos from September 18 to 20. The festival showcased experimental music, art, and technology, drawing musicians, artists, and curious visitors to the coastal town. The event celebrated the cultural identity of Gata de Gorgos while incorporating elements from the Mediterranean, digital art, and local creative talent.

One standout performance was Memòries d’aigua: Escoltant la Posidònia, an immersive experience focused on the underwater sounds of the Mediterranean seagrass ecosystem known as Posidonia oceanica. The project combined visual elements with audio to offer a novel perspective on the marine environment.

Another unusual attraction was Ressonàncies de la Terra, which transformed regular items like tractors, trailers, and metal pieces into instruments, creating an experimental performance that fused machinery, percussion, and live music. Additionally, the festival featured mass drumming performances, masterclasses, and Gata’m Glitch, an audiovisual event exploring digital distortion and experimental sounds.

Gata’m Fest also highlighted the local heritage with a guided walk through Gata followed by live music. Organizers have confirmed that the festival will return for a second edition in 2027, further solidifying Gata de Gorgos as a hub for experimental music and contemporary culture.
