Allocate Srikakulam Mayor post to SC: TDP leader to govt.

The Telugu Desam Party's Scheduled Caste (SC) Cell has urged the government to reserve the Mayor seat of Srikakulam Municipal Corporation for the Scheduled Caste community. This demand stems from the party's belief that the SC community has been historically neglected in local governance over the past 170 years. S. Venkata Ramana, the State general secretary of the SC Cell, submitted a memorandum to the civic body Commissioner G. Shravan Kumar, along with representatives of various Dalit organizations.

Ramana emphasized that Srikakulam, one of the oldest municipalities in India, has never granted the SCs the opportunity to hold positions such as chairman or mayor. He proposed that the government allocate at least 15% of divisions for SCs and 7% for Scheduled Tribes, ensuring that Dalit and tribal leaders have a chance to participate in upcoming elections.
