Akwa Ibom: Stop stoking ethnic tension, tribalism – Eno warns groups, stakeholders

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has cautioned socio-cultural organizations and other stakeholders against inciting ethnic discord and rivalry within the region. He threatened to disband any group that breaks this warning. Addressing a special interdenominational service to commemorate the 39th anniversary of the state's establishment, Eno vowed to safeguard the peace of the state devoutly and would not tolerate anyone fostering discord.

"Political divisions cannot transform into personal animosity, ethnic divides cannot evolve into separation, and religious dissimilarities cannot escalate into hostility," he emphasized. Eno stressed that disagreements and differing political affiliations should not lead to division, as the essence of Akwa Ibom persists beyond temporary discrepancies.

He urged political actors to temper their rhetoric and concentrate on the future of the state. Eno further asserted that he has not reported any individual to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission since assuming office, affirming his commitment to transparency. The governor also acknowledged the blessings of a series of exemplary leaders dedicated to good governance and progress.

The CAN state chairman, Bishop Christian Nyong, commended Eno for his efforts, urging all to uphold peace and adhere to Christian principles as the 2027 elections approach, stressing the importance of adhering to regulations.
