AirAsia Malaysia's licence to fly renews till 2029

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia Malaysia secured a significant milestone as it renewed its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) on September 30, 2029. This renewal is contingent upon CAAM's assessment of the airline's adherence to regulations governing commercial air transport operations.

AirAsia Malaysia's management stated that the renewed AOC comes amid ongoing adjustments to its fleet and network, with more aircraft anticipated to be deployed in the Malaysian market. Presently, the airline holds a dominant position in Malaysia's domestic aviation sector, constituting 61% of its domestic capacity and 34% of flights at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

The airline flies 1,620 flights weekly to 15 domestic and 73 international destinations across 22 countries, serving markets in ASEAN, Asia, Australia, and beyond. AirAsia Malaysia's General Manager, Datuk Captain Fareh Mazputra, emphasized the AOC renewal as a testament to the airline's commitment to meeting regulatory, operational, and safety standards.

He expressed the airline's ongoing dedication to safe and efficient operations, optimizing its fleet and network while maintaining affordable connectivity for millions of travelers across Malaysia and the region.

Notably, KLIA was recognized as the world's No. 1 low-cost megahub, fourth globally, and first in Asia-Pacific in the 2026 Megahubs Index by aviation data provider OAG. The AOC renewal coincides with AirAsia Malaysia's 25th anniversary and its continued leadership in the industry. The airline secured the title of the World's Best Low-Cost Airline at the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards, marking its 17th consecutive win in this category.

AirAsia Malaysia's success is attributed to its broader AirAsia Group, with the Malaysian operation being identified as the company's largest business.
