Ahafo Ano South West DCE Abubakar Sedik dies after brief illness

Abubakar Sedik, the District Chief Executive for Ahafo Ano South West in the Ashanti Region, has died after a brief illness. He passed away on Sunday evening, 20th September, 2026, following a meeting with the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga in Kumasi. The Minister was in Kumasi to discuss the completion of the Kejetia Phase Two Redevelopment project.

Reports indicate that Mr. Sedik fell ill once he returned to Mankranso from the meeting, but his condition could not be saved. In the previous week, Ahafo Ano South West had been at the center of controversy after DCE Sedik was accused of attempting to demolish a school facility in Mankranso to build a 24-hour economy market. The DCE denied these allegations.

Ashanti Regional Minister, also expressing deep sorrow over the sudden demise of the late DCE, extended his heartfelt condolences to the deceased's family, loved ones, colleagues, and constituents. He prayed for the bereaved family's strength and comfort during this trying period, asking God to grant them peace.
