AG: Najib’s family hasn’t paid RM50m fine, house arrest still on hold

Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is yet to fulfill the condition of paying a RM50 million fine before he can serve the remaining portion of his prison sentence under house arrest, according to Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar. The payment is to be made at the Kuala Lumpur High Court Registrar's Office, as the case was initially filed and tried there.

While it's unclear when the fine will be paid, which would subsequently determine Najib's release date, the process may take some time. The Malaysian Prison Department is expected to release standard operating procedures for house-arrest arrangements in the near future. As of today, Najib, who is 73 years old, has been incarcerated at Kajang Prison since August 23, 2022, following his conviction for misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd.

On September 18, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, granted Najib a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the rest of his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, contingent upon the payment of the RM50 million fine and adherence to the specified conditions.
