Abu Dhabi launches endowment awareness tour

Abu Dhabi authorities have launched a roadshow to educate the public about the benefits and importance of endowments, also known as waqf in Arabic. This initiative, spearheaded by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Awqaf Abu Dhabi), aims to raise awareness about the economic and social value of endowments.

Participants in the roadshow will have the opportunity to engage in interactive sessions and workshops at various locations, including schools, universities, businesses, and community councils. They will learn about the history of endowments and their role in sustainable development, as well as how endowments can be used to fund social projects and foster collaboration between the public, private, and academic sectors.

Fahad Abdulqader Al Qassim, Director General of the Endowments and Minors Funds Authority, emphasized that the youth are the primary focus of this initiative. He stressed that endowments are not merely a historical legacy but a dynamic tool capable of addressing evolving societal challenges and supporting sustainable development.

The roadshow is part of Awqaf Abu Dhabi's ongoing efforts to enhance its role as a leading authority in the development of a modern endowments sector. The initiative will kick off in September with stops at the Nabd Al Falah Community Hub, Higher Colleges of Technology, UAE University, and Majlis Al Shahamah. Additional stops are planned in the coming months, encompassing more schools, government bodies, private enterprises, and community councils.

This effort aligns with Awqaf Abu Dhabi's commitment to honor schools of research and science for their contributions to sustainable endowment initiatives. The Mother of the Nation Endowment for Orphans initiative has already raised Dh3.3 billion during Ramadan and is launching a Dh1 billion Mother of the Nation City project.
