Abiodun, Yayi receive Ogun PDP defectors to APC

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has signed legislation establishing the Ogun State Education and Skills Trust Fund. This new framework aims to generate sustained resources for education and skills development beyond the state's regular budgeting process. The Fund will support educational infrastructure, bursaries, teacher training, vocational and technical training, and informal learning systems.

Its potential legacy value lies in its ability to extend beyond a single administration's tenure. While the law doesn't guarantee funding or implementation, it creates a structure through which investment in education and skills can be maintained over time.

Education is an investment in society's productive capacity. The Fund's emphasis on educational infrastructure, such as classrooms, labs, libraries, and maintenance, can help bridge infrastructure gaps in Ogun State. Bursaries can also widen access to education for financially disadvantaged students. However, infrastructure and access alone aren't enough for quality education. Teacher development is crucial, and the Fund will support professional growth, improved teaching methods, and modern skills acquisition.

The legislation also prioritizes skills development and informal learning. Ogun has a rich tradition of apprenticeship, and the Fund seeks to modernize and strengthen this system by incorporating structured training, relevant technology, certification, and enterprise management skills. This could help address the skills gap in Ogun's growing industrial and commercial sector, potentially reducing unemployment and related social issues.

Over 9,000 young people have already received vocational training under the Abiodun administration, and the new law provides a statutory framework for further expanding these interventions. The ultimate goal is to create a qualified workforce that can contribute to economic growth and community development.
