A Chrome bug is slowing extension load times to a snail’s pace on macOS, Google is aware

Google Chrome extensions are experiencing slow load times on macOS devices, according to reports from PiunikaWeb. The issue, which has been reported on the Chromium issue tracker, affects extensions taking up to 60 seconds to load, while they should open instantly on other platforms like Windows or mobile versions. The extensions, particularly password managers like 1Password, are taking an exceptionally long time to load post a recent Google Chrome update.

Google is well aware of this problem and has stated that they are investigating it as a priority. The issue seems to stem from a mismanaged process priority on Google Chrome’s end, where certain extensions are deemed low-priority operations. This effectively pushes them to the background while resources are diverted to other tasks, resulting in longer load times.

Interestingly, some users have found that enabling the PMLoadingPageVoter flag fixes the problem, although this comes with its own set of risks. Google has acknowledged the issue and will continue to monitor the situation, promising further updates on their official community page.
