18 suspects of Haitian president killing extradited to US

Thirty people have been indicted for their involvement in the 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise, according to U.S. Attorney Jason Reding Quinones. The attack took place at Moise's home in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, after a group of assailants, reportedly posing as Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents, raided the residence. Moise's wife, Martine, survived the assassination.

The indictment alleges that the Colombian mercenaries killed Moise for personal gain and that U.S.-based companies provided financial support for their travel to Haiti. The government claims that the mercenaries were motivated by the prospect of private gain and were not acting on behalf of any nation or state in an official capacity. The court record states that the CTU companies used proceeds from PPP and Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) programs to recruit, hire, and provide for the mercenaries.

In exchange for future infrastructure and security contracts, the CTU companies allegedly facilitated the planned coup d'état in Haiti, including the assassination of President Moise. Special Agent in Charge Brett Skiles of the FBI's Miami Field Office stated that some of the accused individuals have been arrested. The FBI, along with domestic and international partners, remains committed to holding all those involved in the plot accountable for their alleged actions.
