Zach Jones returns 2 punts for scores to help UC Davis rout Stetson 45-7

Davis, California (AP) — Zach Jones made two punt returns for touchdowns, while Treynor Cleeland connected on two scoring passes, as UC Davis easily defeated Stetson 45-7 in a Saturday night game. Jones holds the distinction of being the first player in UC Davis history, which currently stands at 3-1 and ranks No. 11 in the Stats Perform Top 25 poll, to achieve this feat.

Treynor Cleeland completed 26 of 37 passes for 331 yards. Samuel Gbatu Jr. contributed with 10 catches for 172 yards and a touchdown, while Jordan Fisher sealed the Aggies' first possession with a 6-yard touchdown run. Cleeland then connected with Gbatu on a 46-yard scoring pass, extending UC Davis' lead to 14-0 early in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Jones returned another punt 79 yards for a touchdown, and Edward Khutsishvili added a 19-yard touchdown catch, pushing the score to 28-0 at halftime. Jones' 61-yard punt return for a score extended the margin to 38-0 late in the third quarter. Thomas Von Grote completed 22 of 39 passes for 219 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Anthony Benzija in the fourth quarter to rally for the Hatters. UC Davis awaits a home game against Montana on Saturday.
