Why do we need human mathematicians anymore?

Human mathematicians are facing an existential crisis due to the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence. Many mathematicians have released reasoned declarations and open letters to protect and guide the math research community in response to AI's impact. The Leiden Declaration has 4,000+ signatories and Math and AI has 7,000+ signatories, while even the open letter opposing the Caltech Mathathon has 2,000+ signatories.

In contrast, public response from non-mathematicians has been more sympathetic, but there is a vocal minority, especially from technology and economics communities, who argue that mathematicians should adapt and cede control in the new AI world.

Upon reflection, the author discovered a stronger solution for preserving human communities of expertise in every pursuit, not just math. This solution is based on the axiom that humans should help humanity flourish. The author argues that if an industry commits to this axiom, the advance of AI will create more jobs than there are people in that industry.

As a result, the advancement of AI will be forced to slow down. This logic applies to every industry and job, and it concludes that we won't have enough people for all the jobs that need to be done.
