Wayne Knight leads balanced UCLA offense past Purdue 52-38 in high-scoring Big Ten opener

On Saturday night, UCLA secured a 52-38 victory over Purdue in the Big Ten opener, marking a strong start for the Bruins. Leading the charge was Wayne Knight, who rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns, while Nico Iamaleava connected on two of his three touchdown passes to Semaj Morgan. The Bruins dominated with a balanced offense, accumulating 369 yards on the ground and 276 yards through the air.

Anthony Woods added 16 yards on his first drive of the third quarter, helping UCLA claw back into the lead. Ryan Browne contributed 378 passing yards and three touchdowns, two of which were to Xavier Townsend. However, Purdue's offense was stifled with 488 total yards, their lowest in a conference game since 2019. Purdue managed to score despite the setback, with two touchdown runs from Fame Ijeboi.

UCLA's defense continued to pressure the Boilermakers, forcing two turnovers, including a crucial fumble recovery by Sammy Omosigho, who has now recorded four turnovers in three games.
