UMass Dartmouth football player Marvins Antoine dies in stabbing

UMass Dartmouth football player Marvins Antoine tragically passed away on Saturday, September 19, following a stabbing incident in Providence, Rhode Island. According to police chief Oscar L. Perez, the 18-year-old was attacked in the chest during a confrontation that began outside the Mezzo Lounge and continued in a Wendy's parking lot.

Teammate Kensley Macean, also 19, suffered non-life-threatening injuries to the head, neck, and left arm. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Chukuwnonso Uzoma-eze, a university student, was apprehended by UMass Dartmouth police after his vehicle was spotted via surveillance cameras. Uzoma-eze faces an arrest warrant for murder, and authorities are working to extradite him for trial.

The incident occurred as several patrons attempted to gain entry to the crowded Mezzo Lounge; one woman involved in an altercation with the victims escalated the situation, leading to Antoine's fatal wound. Antoine and Macean were freshmen running back and defensive back at the Division III institution, respectively. Chancellor Mark A. Fuller expressed condolences to Antoine's family, friends, classmates, and teammates, as well as for Macean's recovery and hopes for his return to education.
