Ukraine fires over 1,000 drones at Russia including largest attack on Moscow

In the Moscow region, at least two fatalities and six injuries have been reported following a large-scale Ukrainian drone assault that took place overnight, according to Governor Andrei Vorobyev. Vorobyev disclosed that 249 drones were brought down in the incident. He also noted that several residential buildings caught fire, including a warehouse. In Moscow, an oil refinery was damaged and flight restrictions were enforced at two airports.

Earlier, a Ukrainian official reported that seven individuals, including two children, lost their lives in Russian attacks in the Kyiv and Sumy regions on Saturday. Similarly, Russia and Ukraine have ramped up their strikes, focusing on energy, transport, and logistics infrastructure.

Vorobyev shared on Telegram that a 44-year-old woman perished in Sofyino after a drone hit a three-story residential building. Additionally, five people, including two minors, were injured in the incident. In Orekhovo-Zuevo district, an elderly man died when a private house was struck by a drone, as per the regional governor.

Social media footage purportedly showing explosions in the Moscow region and a burning warehouse has surfaced, though the BBC has not verified the authenticity of the videos. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that a drone struck a building close to one of the city's boulevards, causing damage to a facility at an oil refinery.

Earlier, Sobyanin stated that 152 drones targeted Moscow before being shot down. At Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports, temporary flight restrictions were implemented, with arrivals and departures halted at Vnukovo. In Ukraine, a mother and her two young children were killed in a Russian attack in the city of Fastiv on Saturday, with several private houses also damaged.

In the Sumy region, four individuals were killed when a Russian drone struck a car they were in, according to Oleh Hryhorov, a top local official. President Vladimir Putin initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
