Ukraine drone barrage hits Moscow oil refinery as two killed in major attack

An overnight onslaught targeted Moscow and its oil facilities, culminating in the day of Russia's parliamentary elections. Two fatalities were reported in one of the most significant Ukrainian drone strikes against the Russian capital, while several drones struck the city's power infrastructure, including a key oil refinery. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin disclosed that Russia had shot down over 1,600 drones since Saturday, with 450 aimed at Moscow.

Sobyanin described the barrage as an unprecedented attack, aimed at disrupting the parliamentary elections, though the adversary failed to achieve its goal. Witnesses reported explosions in Moscow and witnessed plumes of smoke from the oil refinery. The full impact on the facility remains unclear. In the broader Moscow region, two individuals were killed, and around 400 people, including 70 children, were evacuated from a 21-story apartment block in Ramenskoye district.

Several homes sustained damage. These attacks occurred despite US President Donald Trump's assertion that an agreement had been reached between Russia and Ukraine to cease attacks on each other's energy infrastructure. Despite this, both sides have continued strikes on energy facilities. Ukraine's strikes have crippled a substantial portion of Russia's oil refining capacity, leading to fuel shortages, soaring prices, and long queues at petrol stations across several regions.

Ukraine has not commented on the latest attacks. Both Russia and Ukraine maintain they do not target civilians.
