UC Bearcats overcome 21-point deficit to beat Miami

On Saturday, the University of Cincinnati football team, known as the Bearcats, staged a remarkable comeback to defeat their rival, Miami University, also known as the Miami RedHawks. The Cincinnati squad trailed by 21 points at halftime, with their opponents leading 28-7. However, the Bearcats surged back in the second half, scoring 28 points to ultimately win the game 35-31.

A pivotal moment in the game came with 1:29 remaining on the clock when UC's Cole Tabb sprinted 53 yards for a touchdown, giving the Bearcats the lead with a score of 35-31. Earlier in the game, Miami got off to a strong start, capitalizing on a 98-yard kickoff return by Scoop Smith to take a 7-0 lead. The Bearcats managed to score in response, with Lazaro Rogers extending their lead to 14-0 after Rogers' 12-yard touchdown run.

Despite this early lead, the Bearcats managed to climb back into the game with Tabb's one-yard touchdown run, putting Cincinnati ahead 21-14. The margin grew significantly as David McComb scored a touchdown and passed for another, extending the lead to 28-7 at halftime. The third quarter saw J.C. French IV contribute with a touchdown run and a catch, narrowing the deficit to 28-21.

The Bearcats continued their resurgence with a 19-yard field goal from Kellan McLaughlin, increasing their lead to 31-21. Miami responded effectively, as French threw a six-yard touchdown pass to JV Gibson with 6:20 left on the clock, putting Miami ahead 31-28. The game came down to the final minutes. With less than two minutes remaining, Tabb's 53-yard touchdown run secured the victory for Cincinnati, ending the game 35-31. This win marked the 129th edition of the Battle for the Victory Bell at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati.
