Two men run car over Pune woman after she tells them not to drink in public

On September 16, a woman was severely injured in Pune's Balewadi area after she confronted two men for drinking liquor inside their car. The incident occurred around 8:30 pm near Dasara Chowk. The woman, who had her pet dog with her, objected to the men's consumption of alcohol in public. They asked her if her dog would bite, to which she replied that it was not a suitable location for drinking. The men then drove off, leaving her behind.

The woman, who sustained severe injuries including a collarbone fracture, filed a police complaint on Saturday. She had been undergoing treatment for her injuries and only reported the incident after her recovery. The police, upon receiving her complaint, identified the two men through CCTV footage and arrested them on charges of attempt to murder and rash driving.

The arrested men, Dinesh Biradar, 23, and Prashant Bhondave, 25, are residents of Balewadi and drivers of private vehicles. They were remanded to police custody for three days after their arrest.

Assistant Police Inspector Anil Kekan stated that neither of the accused had any prior criminal record. During their interrogation, the men claimed that they did not intend to attack the woman, but rather, the car hit her while it was in reverse gear. Both the accused and the woman are residents of Balewadi.
