Trump says he’s planning to create an ‘AI Force’ and hire a new AI czar

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday his plan to create an "AI Force" and appoint a new AI czar, dismissing concerns over the potential dangers of artificial intelligence technology. In a post on his platform Truth Social, Trump vowed to support the growth of AI, comparing the proposed AI Force to the existing Space Force.

He emphasized that existing criminal and civil justice systems are sufficient to identify any risks associated with AI. Trump did not specify a timeline for appointing the AI czar or the role's duties. The AI czar's position is not new, having been previously held by venture capitalist David Sacks. Trump's announcement comes as the White House faces pressure to establish regulations and guardrails for AI systems, following calls from industry leaders like Dario Amodei, Sam Altman, Elon Musk, and Demis Hassabis for a slower development pace.

Trump dismissed these calls, likening concerns about AI to alarmist talk about climate change and accusing "Radical Left Democrats" of creating conspiracy theories. Despite opposition from some Republicans, Trump insisted that slowing down AI development would benefit China and allow it to gain an unassailable lead. The White House will host a senior-level AI gathering and a state dinner with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the upcoming week.
