Trump cuts short weekend, returns to White House

Donald Trump abruptly ended his weekend at Camp David and returned to the White House on Saturday due to rising tensions in the Middle East. There was no official explanation as to why he was not returning to the White House on Sunday as previously announced. However, it is not unusual for White House travel to change on weekends, such as due to weather conditions.

Sunday brought rain and thunderstorms to the Camp David area. The Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen’s Houthis announced on Saturday that Iran-backed Houthis had fired a ballistic missile at Riyadh early in the morning. This happened after a fire broke out near the Saudi capital’s international airport. The State Department and numerous US embassies issued security alerts to Americans, citing a potential for unforeseen escalation.

The alerts mentioned that Iranian-supported Houthis had engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacking civilian airports. The State Department warned that "this military conflict has the potential to escalate rapidly" and advised Americans outside the Middle East to reconsider travel to and through the region.
