Tlokoeng residents in EC form own political party to contest LGE

In the Eastern Cape of South Africa, the community of Tlokoeng, formerly called Mount Fletcher, is preparing to contest the upcoming local government elections. The residents have established their own political party, the Mount Fletcher Community Voice (MFCV), to advocate for their unique needs. This decision stems from widespread concerns over poor service delivery and government neglect.

The MFCV aims to address issues such as providing potable water, upgrading road infrastructure, and offering decent housing for those in need. For years, residents have complained that their pleas for basic services have been ignored by the governing party. Chairperson Henry Mgijima expressed frustration at the incumbent's unwillingness to address community concerns, stating, "We keep on voting for them, but we get nothing.

They don't come to us; they just ignore us. They are arrogant as the council officials." The new party will exclusively focus on addressing the specific needs of the Mount Fletcher area, as its members feel neglected by national and provincial politics. Lisa Mbuyeye, a party member, highlighted the lack of access to basic services, stating, "We do not have water.

There is absolutely nothing." The community feels that the upcoming election could be the turning point they need to reclaim dignity and confidence. Residents also expressed disappointment over the lack of development in their town, such as the stalled construction of a shopping mall that had been planned. They are united in their resolve to remove corrupt politicians and improve their quality of life through the democratic process.
