Terry Fox documentary premieres at Toronto International Film Festival

TORONTO - As Canadians prepare for the annual Terry Fox Run, a new documentary is premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, showcasing unseen footage of the young man behind the iconic event. Run Terry Run, directed by Sean Menard, follows the journey of a 21-year-old named Terry Fox who lost his right leg to osteosarcoma and embarked on a mission to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research.

Fox’s brother, Darrell Fox, attended the TIFF screening alongside Canadian athletes, expressing his pride in his brother’s legacy. The 180-minute documentary offers a personal and intimate look at Terry Fox’s life and the Marathon of Hope, which he began in St. John’s, Newfoundland, in 1980. Darrell Fox reminisced about the 93 days he spent with his brother, cherishing those memories.

Canadian Paralympic ice hockey player Billy Bridges attended the event, highlighting the impact Fox had on disabled Canadians and the importance of his legacy. The Terry Fox Run is scheduled to take place on September 20 across the country.
