Suspected gunmen kill five in Plateau market attack

Gunmen unleashed a deadly attack on a vegetable market in Mangu, Plateau State, leaving five individuals dead and numerous others injured. The assault took place around 8:45 p.m. on Friday as vendors were concluding their day's work. A witness recounted that the assailants fired indiscriminately, prompting a chaotic exodus from the market. The attack reportedly endured for approximately 20 minutes, causing widespread confusion in Mangu town even after the gunmen had departed.

Deacon Bulus Dabit, President of the Mwaghavul Development Association, confirmed the incident. He noted that the gunmen also targeted vehicles departing the market. The identities of the deceased were still pending, while injured bystanders were receiving medical attention at the Jos University Teaching Hospital. The attack occurred hours after the MDA had voiced concerns over ongoing threats to communities in Mangu, where over 750 Mwaghavul residents had reportedly been killed since 2023.
