Saudi Arabia strengthens global leadership in AI and ethical governance

Saudi Arabia is cementing its position as a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and ethical governance as it marks the 2026 Year of AI. The Kingdom's ascent in the international arena is driven by a strategic emphasis on data and AI technologies, which form a cornerstone of Vision 2030. This approach involves a harmonious blend of cutting-edge technological innovation and the cultivation of a skilled workforce, all while embedding ethical governance to ensure responsible technology use.

Central to these efforts is the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), which spearheads the nation's AI endeavors under the Year of AI initiative. The SDAIA's leadership has positioned Saudi Arabia 13th globally in the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook for 2026 and third among G20 nations. The Kingdom also claims the fourth spot worldwide in AI adoption among companies, thanks to initiatives like the Pioneers Package and incentives promoting AI ethics.

SDAIA's initiatives, including the SDAIA Academy and the Samai program, have trained 1.2 million Saudis in AI, bolstering the nation's digital literacy and capabilities. The International Monetary Fund has lauded Saudi Arabia's progress in integrating AI across various sectors, underscoring the Kingdom's ambitious vision.

Vision 2030's foundation lies in the pivotal role of SDAIA in formulating policies, developing infrastructure and regulatory frameworks, and empowering both the public and private sectors to harness data and AI solutions. The Kingdom's commitment to ethical governance is evident in its dedication to regulating AI development and application through transparency, fairness, and robust privacy protections.
