Rutherford throws for 3 TDs to send Stephen F. Austin past Prairie View A&M 31-10

Gavin Rutherford delivered three touchdown passes and racked up 213 yards to lead Stephen F. Austin to a 31-10 victory over Prairie View A&M in Texas on Saturday night.

Rutherford connected for 15-yard scores to Gerard Edimo and Cameron Kelley within minutes of each other, putting the Lumberjacks (4-0) ahead 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. Carlos Alvarado added a 46-yard field goal with 5:11 remaining in the half, and Rutherford followed with a 10-yard touchdown to Bugs Mortimer, extending Austin's lead to 24-0 just before halftime.

Prairie View A&M (1-3) managed to score a 37-yard touchdown from Ethan Eddins on a 10-play, 72-yard drive with 1:48 left in the third quarter, pulling to within 24-10. The Panthers closed out the scoring with a 21-yard touchdown run by Speedy Jones in the fourth quarter, giving Stephen F. Austin their final margin of victory.

Kaeden Smith of Prairie View capped a game-high 10-play, 72-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown to seal the 10-play, 72-yard drive for the game's final score. Tevin Carter contributed 117 passing yards for Prairie View. The Lumberjacks outgained their Prairie View counterparts 420-267 total yards.

Stephen F. Austin will next face Northeastern State next Saturday, while Prairie View A&M will host Grambling the following weekend.
