Rep. Salazar to Trump on Hispanic voters: "Preserve that fortune that you have brought" GOP

Florida Republican Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar urged President Trump on Sunday to preserve the Hispanic voter support that helped him win in 2024, following a campaign ad criticizing his immigration enforcement policies. In the ad, Salazar warned that Hispanic voters who helped elect Trump feel betrayed by his administration's immigration actions.

The Florida Congresswoman, who is Cuban American, said she had a "very good conversation" with Trump, to which he was "very receptive." Salazar cited his ability to secure 55% support from Hispanics as evidence of his success and warned that the Democrats' socialist agenda poses a threat. She argued that Trump understands the complexities of immigration, citing public support for reform and distinguishing between various groups such as narco, nanny, gangster, and gardener.

Salazar believes the president's advisers may be compromising his legacy, urging him to fix the immigration "mess" that has persisted for decades. Salazar, a first-generation American and daughter of political refugees, faces Democratic opponent Eliott Rodriguez in a South Florida district where Hispanics make up nearly three-quarters of the population.
