Recap: Tennessee defeats Kennesaw State 42-9

Tennessee defeated Kennesaw State 42-9 in a pre-conference game, according to wire material. Quarterback Faizon Brandon had an impressive performance, completing 18 of 26 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns, along with adding 47 yards on 11 rushes. Daune Morris led the backfield with 14 carries for 116 yards and a touchdown, while Braylon Staley led all pass catchers with four receptions for 59 yards and a score.

Tennessee opened the scoring with a methodical eight play, 75-yard drive, with DeSean Bishop scoring from three yards out. The Owls responded with a 59-yard drive, settling for a 35-yard field goal. In the subsequent drive, Staley was blocked out of bounds, but returned to the game and scored a touchdown off a Staley catch. Luca Wolf added a two-point conversion, stretching Tennessee's lead to 15-3.

Arion Carter started the second half with a tackle for loss and a sack, forcing a three-and-out. Four plays later, Daune Morris sealed the game with a 42-yard touchdown run, extending Tennessee's lead to 28-3. Brandon added a late touchdown in the third quarter to boost the lead to 35-3. Tennessee will next face No. 1 Texas on September 26 at noon ET in Knoxville.
