Ramesh Powar coaches Australia U-19 spinners ahead of India series

Former India and Mumbai off-spinner Ramesh Powar is currently assisting the Australian Under-19 team with their spinners. On Sunday, Powar was at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, providing advice to the Australian junior team's spinners at the club's nets. Cricket Australia had approached Powar several months ago to help their young spinners, and he has previous coaching experience with Australia, having coached their under-23 spinners in June 2018.

Powar has agreed to spend four days with the Australian team, joining them on Saturday and staying until their final Youth ODI against India on Wednesday. The Under-19 One-day series between India and Australia began with India winning the first match by seven runs on Friday, with the subsequent two matches scheduled for Monday and Wednesday.

Powar has applied for the junior selector position with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), but the selection process has not yet been conducted. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia mentioned that candidates are being shortlisted and the Cricket Advisory Committee will interview them in the next 15 days. Powar is a former head coach of the Indian women's team, had been the head coach of Gujarat for the past three seasons, and led Mumbai to the Vijay Hazare Trophy title in March 2021.
