Radda Takes North-west Peace Plan to UN General Assembly

Dikko Umaru Radda, Chairman of the North-west Governors’ Forum and Governor of Katsina State, will lead governors from seven North-western states to New York on Monday. Their aim is to present the Peace, Security and Development Framework 2026–2030 to the United Nations General Assembly. This framework serves as a regional approach to peace, security, resilience and development.

It will be showcased at a high-level side event at the UNGA, themed 'From Fragility to Opportunity: Locally Led Pathways to Peace, Resilience and Investment in Fragile Contexts.' This event aims to connect development partners, investors, financial institutions, and private-sector leaders. The framework's development involved consensus-building on regional challenges and a common path for peace, security, and sustainable development.

Supported by the UN system, particularly the UNDP, and high-level engagement from the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Hajiya Amina J. Mohammed, the framework is expected to foster stronger regional cooperation and partnerships. These will focus on addressing insecurity, enhancing resilience, and promoting socio-economic development across the region.

The New York engagement will also allow the governors to seek international partnerships, financing, and private-sector investment to implement the framework. The side event will emphasize investment opportunities in agriculture, infrastructure, energy, technology, mining, and human capital development. Governor Radda's participation signifies the forum's shift from a regional position to a global stage, advocating for the North-west's collective peace, security, and development agenda.
