Qatar warns against single-state control of waterways, urges regional solution

Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesman has cautioned against any single nation asserting control over waterways, asserting that such unilateral action poses significant risks. Currently, Doha is mediating between Tehran and Washington, with the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokesman emphasizing that stranding waterways under the sovereignty of one state and using them as a weapon sets a dangerous precedent for the entire region.

He stressed the importance of a regional solution to maintain stability and garner international support to protect vital waterways like the Strait of Hormuz. The spokesman confirmed that Qatar has received assurances from US administration officials that Washington is willing to negotiate and reach an agreement. He further revealed that Qatari mediators are actively traveling between various capitals to progress this matter.

The Qatari mediation team is engaged with both Tehran and Washington, attempting to resume talks. Both sides have been exchanging ideas over the past two weeks about restarting negotiations with Iran.
