Qatar pushes for revival of US-Iran talks, warns against ‘cycles of escalation’

Qatar is actively working to restart dialogue between the United States and Iran, according to a statement from the country's foreign ministry on Sunday. The ministry spokesperson revealed that Qatari officials have been traveling between capitals in an effort to make progress towards a potential agreement. Doha has reportedly received assurances from US administration officials who expressed a willingness to reach a resolution.

The spokesman emphasized the need for a regional solution that promotes stability, alongside an international understanding that safeguards critical waterways like the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking on the same day, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani stressed that lasting security cannot be achieved through cycles of escalation and retaliation, nor through arrangements that leave any state vulnerable to insecurity.

He advocated for a framework where sovereignty is respected and no nation poses a threat to another. Qatar has been actively engaged in maintaining open lines of communication with regional and international partners to mitigate tensions, the ministry added.

In a separate statement, Qatar's foreign ministry firmly denounced the recent storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Israeli settler Ben Gvir and his followers. The ministry asserted that repeated provocations will only exacerbate cycles of violence and escalation in the region.
