Purina investe 50 milioni sul sito di Portogruaro

The Purina facility in Portogruaro is celebrating its 40th anniversary and announcing a new phase of development, with an investment of 50 million euros. The site produces dry food for dogs and cats, utilizing four extrusion lines, one for veterinary products, and over 120 diverse recipes, covering 37% of the Italian market and exporting to 30 countries.

By 2029, another 50 million euros will be invested. Over the years, the site in Veneto has established itself as a center of excellence for dog and cat food production. Its strategic role has been strengthened by unique expertise in dry food production, quality control, operational excellence, innovation, environmental sustainability, and industrialization of new products.

Today, Portogruaro is not only a productive site but also a hub of expertise that enables innovation and high-quality standards, contributing to the evolution of Purina's Gruppo Nestlé portfolio by supporting business growth in European markets. Filippo Cesari, the site's director, explains that employees guide new initiatives, such as supporting the launch of a new line in Thailand and a team of technicians working on a new site in Turkey.

The site's expertise in producing dry foods, quality, innovation, and operational excellence has been honed over 40 years. The Veneto site is preparing for further improvement with two new investments that confirm its strategic role within the European production network. The first aims to upgrade and modernize the facility to meet the growing demand for super premium products; the second focuses on a wastewater treatment plant that can treat wastewater directly on-site, eliminating transport to depolluting facilities.

These investments are part of the company's broader industrial development strategy in Italy, which includes the recent announcement of a new Purina production hub in Mantova, confirming Purina's commitment to investing in the dynamic European petcare market. Experts and nutritionists create the perfect recipe for premium products, which contain fresh meat and are softer for different animals based on size, age, and health conditions.

The product undergoes 1,400 quality controls daily, including measurement of the biscuit size to ensure consistency. The highlight is the hypoallergenic line, which requires meticulous cleaning of the lines before production to produce a product entirely free of foreign elements. The upcoming line aims to further enhance the production capacity of the super premium lines.

Purina is a sustainable factory, using 100% renewable energy, and the photovoltaic installation will be further expanded.
