Police warn cultists against planned protest in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has issued a warning against a planned protest allegedly connected to a group known as the "Congress of Cultists," believed to have ties with the Neo-Black Movement, also called Black Axe. In a statement released by spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi on Sunday, the police described the group as faceless and suggested their alleged association with the cult organization.

The police cautioned individuals or groups planning to cause disturbances, violate public peace, or engage in criminal activities to reconsider their actions. They emphasized that law enforcement agencies would not stand idly by if miscreants attempt to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere and harm lives or property. The statement warned that police and other security forces would respond decisively to any actions threatening the state's peace and security.

The police advised those with grievances or disputes to seek lawful means of resolution, discouraging violence, self-help, or retaliatory attacks. This warning comes as the state police investigate a recent killing, with some suspects linked to the incident identified but still at large. The police have started a thorough and discreet investigation, gathering useful leads and tracking down suspects.

They urged the public to come forward with any information about the killing, assuring confidential treatment of such information. Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, called on parents, community leaders, traditional rulers, and religious figures to encourage youth and others within their communities to avoid activities that could destabilize the state.

The police urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant, reporting any suspicious activities or movements to the nearest police station or other security agency. The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and public order across the state.
