PKR Youth dismisses calls for Parliament dissolution after Loke's offer to resign

The PKR Youth has dismissed calls for the dissolution of Parliament following Transport Minister Anthony Loke's resignation offer. According to its vice-chief Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari, the stability of the government is determined by the confidence of the majority in the Dewan Rakyat, not by external pressures. The current unity government still holds the mandate, and the dissolution of Parliament should not be used as a tool for political pressure.

Kedah Umno Strategic Communications Director Syed Mohd Johan Rizal had urged Anwar Ibrahim to dissolve Parliament after Loke's resignation in response to Najib Razak's conditional pardon. However, Taufiq clarified that this stance should be seen as responsible leadership rather than a sign of government collapse, with the final decision resting with the prime minister.

Despite the calls for dissolution, the PKY Youth dismissed claims that the government was "sinking," citing a GDP growth of 6.0% in the second quarter of 2026, up from 5.4% in the first quarter. Taufiq emphasized that a well-governed, economically robust government would continue to deliver stability and growth. He also cautioned that snap elections would only create uncertainty, disrupt ongoing programs, and strain national finances, as Umno, a part of the unity government, had reaffirmed its commitment to the current administration.
