Pengampunan Najib: Anwar nafi buka jalan, tegas setiap banduan berhak rayu

Perdana Menteri Anwar Ibrahim refuted allegations that he opened the door for Najib Razak's pardon during the Perintis Reformis Reunion Hi-Tea Summit at SITC today. Instead, Anwar emphasized that every detainee has the right to seek forgiveness and it will be considered by the Forgiveness Body, taking into account the advice of the Prime Minister and the Attorney-General at the federal level.

He clarified that the final decision rests with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. "I assert that every detainee has the right to present their petition, and I continue to defend this right for anyone, including Najib, who has the right to submit their request to be evaluated by the Forgiveness Body under the Agong's chairmanship," Anwar stated.

He also mentioned that the power to grant honors and grants is in the hands of the Sultan and the State Ruler or the Agong, in line with constitutional principles. He added that his previous comments regarding Najib's pardon were not meant to influence the decision, but rather to discuss ongoing cases, heavy fines, and their impact on public confidence in the justice system and international perspectives.

Anwar further stressed that granting forgiveness does not hinder the legal proceedings of other ongoing cases, including those related to 1MDB and civil matters. He reiterated the Madani government's commitment to combat corruption and ensure that cases of misuse of power are investigated and brought to justice through the legal process.

On Friday, Sultan Ibrahim granted conditional forgiveness to Najib, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence in custody at home until August 23, 2028, subject to paying a RM50 million fine. The Legal and Constitutional Affairs Department (BHEUU) of the PM's office announced this decision at the 64th Meeting of the Federal Court Forgiveness Body for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya, held at the Istana Negara on Friday.
