Industries urge clarification on K8 tanker loading rules

R Jeyenderan explained that this clarification is crucial to ensure the procedures, requirements and documentation related to K8 cargo mixing are clear to the industry.

He asked Customs to explain whether mixing or loading K8 cargo with existing petroleum is permitted and what conditions, if any, must be met if it is allowed. "If mixing or loading is allowed, the basis, conditions and required documentation must be clearly stated. "If not allowed, the industry also needs to be informed about the procedure to follow," he said in a statement.

The primary concern is how cargo can be identified after being loaded into a tank that also contains existing inventory. Jeyenderan said records should include the amount of cargo loaded, existing inventory, product movement, lab results and the quantity removed or transferred for monitoring. "The issue is not an allegation of unauthorized mixing, rather any determination should be made based on records and evidence," he said.
