NSCDC arrests woman, four others over alleged sale of dead cattle meat in Yobe

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Yobe State has apprehended five individuals, including a 42-year-old woman, for allegedly buying and processing dead cattle for human consumption. According to the NSCDC's Public Relations Officer, Bala Garba, the woman, known as Nancy Benedict, was placed under surveillance for two weeks prior to her arrest.

The suspects were apprehended in the New Jerusalem area of Damaturu, following intelligence received by the NSCDC about the alleged activity. Garba revealed that the command secretly observed the woman for two weeks before witnessing her purchasing two cattle carcasses for N100,000, intending to process the meat for human consumption.

The five suspects are currently in custody, and the NSCDC is investigating the source of the cattle, the circumstances surrounding their deaths, and whether the meat had already been processed or distributed to other consumers. The NSCDC also cautioned that meat from animals that passed away without proper veterinary inspection could present significant food safety hazards to consumers.
