Ngetich breaks women-only half-marathon record

On September 20, Kenya's Agnes Ngetich shattered the women-only half marathon world record by a mere second. On Sunday, the athlete triumphed at the World Athletics Road Running Championships held in Copenhagen, clocking in at an impressive one hour, five minutes and 15 seconds. Ngetich, who also set the women-only 10 km world record last year, began the race at the forefront on a bright morning and held onto her lead until the very end, crossing the finish line 50 seconds ahead of her fellow Kenyan, Veronica Loleo, who claimed second place.

The previous record, set by fellow Kenyan Peres Jepchirchir during the 2020 World Half Marathon, stood at 1:05:15. Globally, the women's half marathon record is currently held by Ethiopia's Letesenbet Gidey, who completed the course in 1:02:52 in 2021.
