Mumbai's First Metro-Integrated Flyover To Transform East-West Connectivity, Open In Phases By 2027

Mumbai’s inaugural metro-integrated flyover is set to transform east-west connectivity in the city, with construction to proceed in stages. The inaugural segment, stretching from Infinity Mall in Andheri West to JVLR Junction, is slated for completion by December 2026, while the subsequent portion, extending to Poonam Nagar, is projected to be finished by May 2027.

The 5.08-kilometer flyover, planned by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), spans the New Link Road near Infinity Mall in Andheri West to Poonam Nagar on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR). Of the total length, 0.93 kilometers has already been constructed by the BMC. The project, which intersects with Metro Line 6, is being executed in two parts: a double-decker stretch accommodating both the flyover and Metro 6, and a single-level flyover with ramps and a 120-meter cable-stayed bridge crossing the Western Express Highway and Metro Line 7.

Phase I, covering the Infinity Mall to JVLR Junction, is expected to conclude by December 2026, while Phase II, extending from JVLR Junction to Poonam Nagar, is targeted for May 2027. The combined elevated corridor, once operational, will offer a seamless connection between Mumbai’s western and eastern regions, alleviate traffic congestion at key junctions, and facilitate smoother transit along JVLR, SV Road, and JVLR, while segregating local and through traffic on distinct elevated levels.
