Mumbai Airport T2: BMC Flags Unauthorised Water Connection To Mosque; Seeks Approval Within 7 Days

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has raised concerns over an unapproved water supply connection to a mosque situated near Mumbai Airport's Terminal 2, following a complaint by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya. Somaiya expressed his belief that the mosque, believed to be constructed on airport land, had been receiving water and electricity without the necessary legal clearance.

Upon inspection on September 16, the K-South Ward water works department of the BMC discovered a 15-mm-diameter pipe delivering water to the mosque. Subsequently, an official letter was dispatched to the Terminal 2 airport authorities, requesting confirmation of the water connection within a week, as it was not recorded in their files.

The airport has been urged to cease the unauthorized water connection if it is found to be illicit, with the civic body threatening further legal action under the Municipal Corporation Act if necessary. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had previously declared the structure illegal, stating that the Interim Development Plan for the airport area does not include provisions for a public place of worship at the site.
